WSC Annual General Meeting

posted Feb 6, 2012 4:36 PM by Paul Lilly

Dear WSC members,

I would like to formally invite each of you to join me at our Annual General Meeting on February 22nd at 1800 hrs.   It will be held at the South Surrey Recreational Centre, located at 14601 – 20 Avenue
Surrey (604-592-6970).  As you can see from the attached reports, we have a lot to discuss and vote on this year so we are planning on beginning our meal as soon as possible in an attempt to start our meeting at 1900 hrs sharp.   Barb will be contacting you all soon with instructions regarding dinner.  I am looking forward to sharing an evening with you all and hope you are planning on attending.

I have attached a number of reports for our upcoming AGM.  Please review all of these documents beforehand and come prepared with any questions or concerns.  Please review the motions that will be made and the corresponding constitution/by-law sections in an attempt to expedite a smooth and timely discussion.  All documents and reports will be added to our "members only" link for quick reference.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Directors for submitting their yearly reports in a timely manner.  Their effort and energies have allowed me to send their reports well ahead of the AGM for your perusal.

The attached financials have made note of hours contributed by all members that were recorded on our “members only” link on our website.  If you did not record your hours as required, please contact Chester with your maintenance hours and he will make the appropriate adjustments.

A number of large issues were undertaken this year, issues that I was ill prepared to advise on but your knowledge, expertise and wisdom helped me and guided me throughout the process.  I would like to thank all of you for your support and encouragement throughout the last year and for your willingness to help in any way you could.

Again, thank you for giving me the opportunity to lead our coop this year.  It has been a wonderful experience for me.

Paul - Commodore

Esquire Repairs

posted Jan 16, 2012 7:35 PM by Paul Lilly   [ updated Jan 16, 2012 7:39 PM ]

I would like to extend a huge thank you to Graham, Aiden, Wayne and Stu for all the work they have done on Esquire over the last week.  Graham made up a new main halyard to replace the old worn out one and Aiden and Wayne installed it on Friday. It now runs back to the cockpit using blocks.  Graham has ordered a new clutch/cleat set which will be installed later on the starboard side. They also replaced the lines on the boom vang and the traveler, which were worn out.   Wayne replaced the line on the backstay and installed blocks and line to improve the control on the main outhaul.  Stu spent a few very cold hours laying in the bottom of Esquire repairing her broken steering components.  He removed, ordered and reinstalled any parts that were broken or worn out.  Again, thank you gentlemen for your time and effort.

Winter Boat Watch

posted Jan 2, 2012 3:45 PM by Paul Lilly

Hey gang, Just a gentle reminder to check the boat watch schedule that was sent out by Aiden in November to ensure that you are available on the dates you are responsible for.  If you can't find the email, please contact Paul and he will send it to you again.  If you can't fulfill your commitments due to extenuating circumstances, please contact a member on the spare list at the bottom of the schedule.  It is your responsibility to find a replacement if you are unable to check on the boats (please call Paul if you can't find a replacement).  With winter storms becoming more frequent and more severe, it is imperative that we check on our boats to ensure they are secure.  Thanks in advance for helping out with this important maintenance issue.

2012 AGM

Please be advised that we are in the process of booking our AGM and will send out an email to all our members when we have a confirmed date.  Currently we are looking at February 21, 22 or 23.  We are hoping to hold our AGM in the same room as last year as it fit the bill quite well.  Stay tuned!

Esquire's Sails Repaired

posted Jan 2, 2012 3:29 PM by Paul Lilly

Thank you to Wayne and Alden for getting Esquire's sails removed, repaired and returned to the boat.  All the stitching on her main and head sails have been repaired and reinforced, which should make her far more efficient while sailing this coming cruising season.

Also thanks to Stu for getting Esquire's steering cable repaired.

Currently, Graham and Aiden are busy adding blocks and cams to Esquire in order to bring her main sail halyard back to the cockpit, which will make raising and lowering the main far easier for our members.

Thanks guys for all your time and effort.  We really appreciate it.
